Just wondering...has anyone got this one running on a mac? I only ask because I've tried all the usual sources (Paul the Tall, porting team, crossover games) short of actually installing windows via parallels or boot camp, and had no luck at all.

Sorry to throw up a forum topic but I figure there are probably other folks in the same boat as well.

You can use the PC data files with the Mac version of NWN2. Before you read any further, know this: the Mac version linked below includes a DVD check. I.e., you have to have the original Mac NWN2 DVD in the drive in order to be able to play it, which you obviously don't have. I don't know whether there are any cracks floating around for that. I can easily get around the check using gdb, but please don't ask me how because I will not answer. I'm not interested in getting into any trouble. Circumventing such a check for research purposes is allowed under the EU Software Copyright Directive (but distributing instructions to others, even to do it for the same purpose, is not covered by any exception) — and in fact I did it just for non-commercial research purposes, because I own a Mac AppStore version that does not contain such a check. Unfortunately, it's no longer sold there.

You can get the base files (basically the application) of the Mac version with DVD check by downloading the latest update from Aspyr.

It's distributed as an updater application, but you can simply right click the "Neverwinter Nights 2 Installer.app", choose "Show Package Contents", navigate to Contents/Resources/Neverwinter Nights 2.mpkg, then show that file's contents, navigate to Contents/Packages and extract NWN2Common_1.23.1765.pkg using Pacifist (or maybe you can even directly install it by double clicking). You don't need any of the language resource installers, you'll get that data from the PC copy.

Note that the following instructions are based on a PC install of the GamersGate version. The paths for the GOG version will probably vary a little. Also note that these instructions are only valid for the version linked above, and not to extend the Mac AppStore version with the extra campaigns. To do the latter, follow these instructions.

Now, assuming the Neverwinter Nights 2.app game bundle is located in a folder called NWN2GameFolder on your Mac:
a) copy the contents of "C:\Program Files\Atari\Neverwinter Night 2\Campaigns\Neverwinter Nights 2" into a folder called Data inside the NWN2GameFolder. You can delete all .exe and .dll files if you want to reclaim some space.
b) copy the contents of "Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\My Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2" to "$HOME/Documents/Aspyr/Neverwinter Nights 2" on your computer (create the "Aspyr" and "Neverwinter Nights 2" folders first on your computer if applicable).
c) remove from the folder that you copied in step b) the files nwn2.ini, nwn2.ini, nwn2player.ini, nwn2player.ini (they may contain Windows-specific settings and will be recreated when you start the game the first time)

That's it. Now you can run the native Mac version of the game (with the caveat of the dvd check).

I know this question is old, but since someone already answered I can add my comment as well: The warapper from the Porting Team from doh123 works fine, but you need to update the wrapper (the porting team frontpage has instructions) and change the engine to something more recent (I'm playing with 1.5.27).

Thanks! This is actually the way I eventually got it to work. I've played through about 3/4 of the main campaign, and everything has been going fine with a few strange missing texture bugs that started to pop in about halfway through. Otherwise it's been very stable on the whole.
