Well, I have tried several fixes, and finally put in a ticket to GOG in hopes that I can play this game. I can tell its a worthwhile rpg, and I really enjoyed the original...but wow I have never bought a game from GOG with this level of technical issues.
Constant crashing, black screening, flickering, and stuttering (almost like it wants to crash, but doesn't).
And, for some reason, once I reached Neverwinter, the game became completely unplayable. Incessant crashing within the first 5 minutes of the game every time...where as it used to "only" crash once or twice an hour.
Before it became unplayable, I had to put shadows on the low setting in order to get a decent frame rate.
This is about par for Obsidian, which seems to have a very strong grasp of the soft side of game design - story, character development, game worlds, and general game design....but has always struggled with the technical side. Almost every game I have played from this studio suffered from this bizarre dichotomy.
And I do realize I am playing an older game on newer hardware...but when this game originally released, I had similar technical issues on a gaming desktop I had at the time. I'd really like to enjoy this game, but I am pretty close to giving up.
