I recently bought two of my friends copies of NWN2 and we decided to try to play a multiplayer campaign. After getting it to work with one of us (using Hamachi), we played a bit. When we tried to get my other friend in, he couldn't see the server (we think it was his own internet as the problem).

The main problem is that the one person who did connect and play for a bit lost their character and when they tried to rejoin, had to make a new one.

Is there something specific that he has to do to keep his character when I'm hosting (export character?) or something else?

Thank you to any that reply.

There are two ways to store characters. Server side (on the computer running the game) or locally (on the players machine). Look for the character in the players "local vault" folder and the "server vault" folder on the machine that hosted the game (each player will have his or her own directory identified by the username they logged in with).

It's pretty much always best to store characters on the server vault to prevent cheating.

Erh, one question: why you are using Hamachi if everyone has legit NWN copies?
Hamachi create VPN for making your computers to be in the same "local" network, but NWN1 and NWN2 works very good in different networks, as long the cd-key are valid, you only need to know the real IP address of the server

P.d. with the NWN games, you need to request directly to Gog by a new set of Cd-keys for be able to play multiplayer online
The reason why we're using Hamachi is because we couldn't get Direct Connect to work, and we wanted to do a private game hosted on one of our computers.

And all three of us have legitimate copies (2 GOG copies and a Steam copy)

We spent several hours trying to get Direct Connect to work, and searching for ways to make it work led to Hamachi or Tunggle(?).

I'll have to ask and see if my friend has the character in either of those two folders; still don't know why it would suddenly not see it though if he leaves and rejoins.

--Figured out that it was Hamachi not liking one person's computer, and thank you urknighterrant, that fixed the character problem.
