I just cracked open NWN2 for the first time YAY! My question: I like to play a paladin with a two-handed sword, but I find that in a lot of games the good lot ends up being longswords so you'd be better off with a LS + shield. Will I gimp myself if I start with a weapon focus on GS?
Also if you want to throw in any useful starting tips I'd appreciate it.
Thank you

It's been a long time since I played this game, but here are some things you could Google if no one replies.
- Does Greatsword have a 1.5 STR damage boost as it does in some DnD games?
- Does 2-handed weapons (Greatsword since you're asking) have a weapon reach benefit? (1 for smaller; 2 for larger)
- Critical Chance and Critical Damage multiplier was also a factor for weapons. ( I think GS was 19-20 CC / x2 CD)

There's may be others factors worth looking up that I can't think of at the moment. I recall playing some DnD games with Pikes or Halberds or Glavies because they had better reach. (I'm not 100% sure, but I think Temple of Elemental Evil was one such game)

Sorry I couldn't give you more direct answers, but maybe this will still help a bit.

I think you are right about Temple of Elemental Evil. Since NWN 1 and 2 aren't far apart in many ways I would love to be successful with a 2HS paladin - just don't want to have to reroll.

I'll check on the questions you mentioned. Thank you!
yes you are ok with two-handed weapons for most of the story but there will be times that a shield or even off hand sword are better ideas... you should be able to figure out those times on your own

I'll be sure and get proficiency in both and keep a decent one-hander and shield close by.
