Hi, I've recently installed NWN Diamond Edition and it runs fine except that every 2-5 minutes the screen turns black for a second or two. I think the anticipation of "it's going to go...any minute now..." is worse than the black screen itself.

I've tried changing the resolution and other graphics settings (including v-sync) and it hasn't worked. I've also tried seeing if running it in windowed mode would help but I can only get it to run in a small window.

I'm running it on Windows 7 64bit.

Thanks for any help.

Not sure what's causing this, but for a start try some standard things:
- Run the game in Compatibliity Mode for Windows XP and as Administrator (both set on the Compatibility tab; Right-click the game's shortcut and select Properties)
- Update your graphic card's drivers
- Make sure the old components of DirectX 9 are available on your system by installing the DirectX 9 end-user redistributable
- Close all other running software, especially anit-virus (go offline before, if you feel unsafe)

I have had a couple of similar occurrences, whereby the screen goes temporarily black when playing certain modules, and on a couple of occasions my graphic driver threw an error to the effect that it failed while waiting for Windows to reply the the OpenGL library, or something along those lines. So make sure you close all non-essential processes down, especially those that take up processing time, like antivirus while playing games.

I've tried those things (with the exception of the Anti-virus) and it still happens. I'd rather not turn of my anti-virus as I'm often online and I've never had to do that before with games, so I might just try to see if windowed mode works. Though like I said, for some reason the window is quite small nomatter what resolution I set it to.

Anyway, thanks for the advice.

Don't misunderstand me. I was not suggesting for one moment that you disable your antivirus permanently. My suggestion was for troubleshooting. If you disable your antivirus (temporarily), and the issue goes away, you should then think of changing your antivirus, because some do behave very badly in this respect.

Oh, I thought you meant turning it off and on again whenever I start up the game. Still, sad to say that it doesn't give any improvement.
