just bought the game from GOG. I bought it mainly for the Hordes of Underdark expansion as I have read on many reviews that this is where the game really shines. As I don't really have much time to play games, is there a way to 'jump' directly into the expansion pack mentioned? Can I find some saves files somewhere on the web so that I can start playing the expansion directly ?
just realized that I can jump directly in one of the expansion packs. I thought I had to play the whole thing sequentially. Whew

Shadows of Undrentide is quite good as well, better pacing than the OC. I am at the end of the Interlude and it is a lot of fun.

With the Diamond edition you can play the HoTU classes in SoU, so it si possible to build a character for both expansions.

thanks man. It seems a really well made game, the amount of customization seems outstanding. I started as a wizard and it's refreshing to see all these spells. I was tired sick of overly simplistic combat systems and hack and slashery. Abandoned many games because of that.
Also note, while it doesn't really matter storywise, HotU is a direct sequel to Shadows oU.

While you can create a new character, you'll be starting from around level 15 or thereabouts. The learning curve can be a bit steep if that's your first touch with NWN.

If you do it that way, might be a good idea to search for a character build guide. Although, if you're familiar with D&D it might work out just fine anyway.
cool, I'll try that. So far I can't even load the save files, but I played a bit and yeah it seemed quite a complex magic system and character building system. Very detailed, I am actually pleased, should have bought this game before
I fixed the black screen problem. I was so impressed that I decided to start the normal campaign. I even imported the character I built in HOTU. It was worth it just for the tutorials, but I think I'll just play the whole thing, I think this game is really good ! It's been a while since I have found this kind of immersion in a game, last one it's been DAO a couple of years ago.

Really good game, very detailed and not boring at all!
Opinions vary, I personally consider the original campaign quite good, but even then it will get a bit boring and repetitive at some point, the second chapter is imo the strongest and it's a steady decline after that.

But note, original campaign is stand alone, 1st to 15th level or so.
SoU + HotU are a pack, 1st to ... 30th level or something.
So you wont be able to use the same character through the lot.
(actually you can, but then you'd be totally overpowering everybody all the time)
ok I see what you mean....might as well start from SoU then
