I'm looking for some high adventure that will take me from starting all the way to the epic levels. Hopefully something that isn't just dark for the sake of being dark and something somewhat casual friendly.

Been a while since I played NWN, but check out the Aielund saga. It definitely takes you to epic levels, although I'm not sure how 'casual friendly' you'd consider it since it does utilize some deviation from the standard NWN rules. I believe it supports subraces, although I can't swear to it.
