So I was informed of how awesome Neverwinter Nights (1) is for persistent mutliplayer worlds & modding just as of yesterday. I'd never even know what the heck the game was before then. My friend recently bought a copy and was streaming it....it brings tears to my eyes how closely is mimics a legitimate roleplaying experience.

I'm just.....mad at myself here....literally a week out from GOG having an 80%-off sale & I MISSED it. *dies*

Anyways then, I think the last time I grabbed the Broken Sword collection I got blasted with a couple of international taxes since I'm in USA & GOG is EU(?) - being that NWN is about $10 USD, what extra taxes am I looking at on payment? My paycheck for the rest of the month is spoken for, so I'd like to know what hidden fees I'll have to pay when buying the game so I can budget it in for March.

Also, I grabbed the CCP, CEP, and NWNCQ mods ahead of time so I don't have to wait for them to download when I actually get the game installed. Are there any other mods, visual upgrades (character models look pretty bad), or campaigns that are absolutely must-have?

I also live in the U.S., and when I purchased a copy of the game from gog.com for my son to play, there were no extra fees.

For extra haks, if bandwidth isn't an issue for you, you might want to download the CMP (community music pack), and various CTP (community tileset pack) tilesets.

For some visual updates via the NWN/overrides folder (which would be visible in pretty much any module/server you plan in), there are a bunch of things that will update various creatures and items. With some searching, there may even be a couple of tileset appearance overrides floating around. I'm biased, of course, but I recommend the various weapon models (the link leads to part 1 of 8) and perhaps alterations to the GUI such as my [url=http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Other.Detail&id=1433#Files]transparent GUI and colorized icon sets. Many "beautifying" overrides are listed in this thread on the BioWare NWN forum.

Oooooo~ Really awesome, thanks for the advice. I had no idea that music pack even existed. Grabbed that and am checking out the CTP as well.
When I buy using my debit card through Paypal. My bank usually charges me an international fee, less than 50 cents. However if you use a paypal balance there are no additional fees.

NWN is fairly dead now compared to the old days. But man, you missed out. There were hundreds, if not thousands of role-playing servers.

The game still is going, though, so you can still hop on and $9.99 is still super-cheap. I've bought 4 copies of the game so far over my lifespan at a grand total of somewhere around $90 and it was worth every cent. Just grab it today and play for the next eon or so (the game was my primary game for 4 or 5 years -- I have no log of hours, but well over 500, if not 1000 [about 500 on my server from playing, ignoring building, and then add in all of the time from other servers and campaigns).

Heh, same here. I also bought 4 copies of the game. As well, I logged well over 2000 hours on the game over the three years it was almost the only game I played. Best value for money spent of any game I've ever bought.
Yah, I really wish I ~had~ found out about it sooner. I'm having a ton of fun with it. I've got all the Premium Modules installed + a few community ones. All of the extra .Hak packs and visual mods really add a ton of extra life & flare on top of the default game's simplistic locations, so I'm just completely shocked & overwhelmed that a game so old is basically ruining newer games for me~! XD

It's certainly going to be a while before I finish NWN, but I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for NWN2 to go on sale at some point too.
NWN is goin to be my go-to game for many years to come.
