omegafreedom: hello guys! am new to dungeon and dragons universe and i got Neverwinters Nights on gog and i was wondering if its possible to play online with a community i'd love that very much :) please contact me if you can help me and thank you hope to see you in game =)!
Hi there!
First off, it would help if you could specify whether you play the newer Enhanced Edition (EE) or the old Diamond Edition (DE). This info is relevant because NWN has been available on GOG long before the EE came along, but EE and DE are not compatible with each other, and most online play these days will require the EE. But if you bought the game here recently, then I assume it's the EE and you're all set.
Sadly, the NWN community is not all that big and additionally it's spread across several websites, with the GOG forums probably housing the smallest part of it. Add to that the preference of many GOG customers for offline single player, and it can be tricky to find people to play with here. I recommend to also post on the
Neverwinter Vault forums, or even at the according Steam forums (NWN is crossplay compatible, as a GOG customer you should still be able to play online with people who use the Steam version).
That being said, what exactly are you looking for? Playing NWN online can mean at least three different things:
1. Play through the original story campaign with a small group of other players/friends.
2. Play through user-created adventures or campaigns that are multiplayer-compatible with a small group of others players/friends.
3. Join an open online world, MMO style, and encounter other players you can form a party with, roleplay with, fight against or just ignore.
The first two require the group getting together and one of the participants hosting the game, the third you can do on your own just by logging into one of the many PW (Persistent World) servers. You could then either contact random players in-game who are currently online, or you meet there with others you have found on the forums, at a time you all agree on.
Also, are you looking for someone just showing you the ropes for a while or someone committing to play with you regularly?
