hey guys i just got this game and no matter what i do its all glitchy. i have a 2GB video card and 16 gigs of ram with a intel quad core 3.4 GHZ processer any advice

I don't know what glitchy is, but for me It does freeze and (not respond) a lot in NWN1. I quick-safe often enough were it doesn't bother me. Having a nice computer like you do is nice and all but probably doesn't help much with these older games. I'd bet newer hardware actually causes more problems with some of these games.

1) what brand of video card do you have? I use a Gforce 745 video card. I get some freeze up but no lock up.
2) what OS do you have. My OS is Windows 8.1
I have no problems with running NwN.

NWN1 is not fond of multi-core CPUs; it's a semi-common bugaboo with games of its era (NWN1 came out in 2002, while the first consumer dual core CPUs came out in 2005 with the Intel Pentium D and AMD Athlon 64 X2, so naturally the situation was not one that could reasonably have been anticipated in QA).

The easiest solution is to pin NWN1 to using just a single core; here is a guide to setting up a shortcut for a program so that it runs on a specific core only.

There are some settings that don't work well with modern hardware, especially the shiny water. Try switching it off. Also, you could try lowering your lighting settings.
