Hello, I'm trying to address a problem that has no explanation whatsoever. whenever i start up Neverwinter Nights Diamond on my Windows 8 Toshiba Satellite Laptop, it just suddenly crashes when it seems to be starting. I have played the game on my laptop before, but I have never encountered this error. It used to crash on loading an area transition on the main storyline, but now it crashes Immediately. Please help!

I am not sure if it has anything to do what i experienced but try to start the game as an admin. My windows is setup the way that i am not a superuser so i need to run it as an admin and it does work like that. But then, i have Windows 7 and not 8. Hopefully it works the same on 8 as it does on 7.

i have similar issues with win 8 pro x64 bit with media center addon worth the $9.99usd i have paid for the the media center key enable dlna devices to access media content stored on the PC over your home network

I also experience a crash when the game menu would normally appear. I also have a Toshiba satellite windows 8.1. Unfortunately, I do not have a solution to the problem. If anyone has a solution, please share it.

1st of all the game runs just fine on windows 8.

I'd look at the dx drivers before going anywhere else... open the run command ([windows key] + [r]) and type "DxDiag" (without the quotes)... any display or sound errors?

I'm running the game just fine on Win 8.

Gotta install dx9 on top of your native direct-x. It won't overwrite the new version. It will just install a bunch of files NWN needs that the new version has dropped.

As a side note, I once had problems with the launcher on a Vista machine. Find NWN.exe in your install directory and see if it opens from there.

I had the same problem. Just run the game in compatibility mode. Right click on the desktop icon -> properties -> compatibility tab -> click "run this program in compatibility mode" -> select windows 7.

No problems after this

Hey thanks for your helpful replies. I had my OS reinstalled because of virus probems and my game has worked since I downloaded it after that. There are no problems with my drivers, maybe it was my first antivirus software or viruses preventing me from playing the game, I have no idea because I am a computer klutz. Thanks again

How do you install DX9 when windows 8.1 comes with DX11? It won't let me install DX9 because I have a newer version already installed.

This is really valuable info (not being sarcastic in the least). Too bad we can't get it pinned somehow. It's a major issue knowing how to override the defaults set by the new OS configs.
