Does anyone know if there have been changes made in the GOG version to make it more compatible with newer machines? I've got the original CD version of NWN Diamond (which always ran fine on my old WinXP machine) but my 4 year old Win7 machine can't run anything but the smaller modules (preludes and some small user modules) without crashing and my Win10 system just throws up its proverbial hands in defeat and refulses to run the game at all.

I've even tried setting up a virtual machine to run in XP mode to see if that would help which on Win7 runs the game like molasses even in the fastest graphics options and still won't run the game at all in Win10 regardless.

I'd happily re-buy the game again if I know that I'll get a version I can use on Win7 or Win10.

As long as the CDs are in good enough shape to install cleanly, just upgrade with the Critical Rebuild (the HotU English exe) and you are good to go. You may need to fuss about a bit tweaking your video driver, though. That's been a source of some frustration with the newer hardware trying to deal with OpenGL architecture. Nvidia vs. ATI/AMD debate still exists.

If you happen to be trying to use a rig with integrated graphics, that usually is an unsolvable problem.

There's nothing "extra" to be gained over the Diamond CD set by procuring a GoG download except for a cheap new key, the one reason some original game owners have grabbed one.

No difference at all. I have the GoG NWN version in my library, but I am still running the version off my Diamond Disks.

Runs perfectly fine on my Win 7 machine with an 8800GT GPU.

Are you trying to run on Intel integrated graphics?

Are many people playing multi-player now? I do miss all of the various servers that were available in the heyday of the game - that was 90% of the reason I bought the game initially.

As for integrated graphics - no, I've got a standalone NVidia so I should be able to tweak it if necessary. Hopefully installing this crit rebuild will resolve the problems I've been seeing.

And thanks for the quick responses to both you and PeterScott!

You can check real-time participation at http://www.nwnlist.com/ There is also a listing based on Skywing's NWNCX Gamespy Replacement (I didn't have luck installing this but that's probably due to my impatience rather than complexity). Here's a link to that ---> http://www.neverwinternights.info/nwncx.htm

With the Scry site, NWN1 and NWN2 servers are listed on different tabs. You will probably recognize some longtime oldies like Three Towns and find out that other themeparks have several servers running in parallel.

The custom resources required to play on many of them may surprise you but it's the been the trend over the last few years, so be sure to at least install the latest CEP to make joining a bit faster and easier.

Well, the critical rebuild patch worked to resolve my problem so that helped tremendously.

After I've refamiliarized myself with the game engine and all, I'll definitely be checking out those resources for multi-player.

Thanks for all of the help!
