Hello!

I've now tried every solution to the "no start-up" problem. UAC was disabled by default on my system, I tried going to the installation folder and run as administrator, run in comp. mode and so on and nothing works.

I can see that the process "nwnmain.exe" is running in the taskbar, but only with a memory usage of 10k, so I doubt that it's -really- running.
Anyone had similar problems and/or a solution?

Did you try running it from nwn.exe instead of nwnmain.exe? What OS are you using?

Yes, I just tried that, both normally, in Windows XP (SP3) mode and in admin mode.
The launcher came up, clicked "Play", the NWN logo came up, vanished and then nothing.

And I'm using Windows 7 64-bit.

Okay, it works on my rig using the same OS, so the only thing you didn't list that I can think of that may be different is where you installed the game. I have all my games installed outside of Programs or Programs(x86). They're actually on a separate drive, but the key is not to install them under Programs or Programs(x86). If you have it installed there, try installing somewhere else and see if it helps.

There is a 'safe mode' shortcut in NWN's folder n Start Menu. Can you launch the game from it?

It's installed in c:\gog games\never winter nights, so I don't think it's that.

Tried that too, in any way possible, no dice.

Bump?

Suduki: Bump?
Try renaming "nwnmain.exe" to something else .exe and see if that works.
Don't know why, but it can.

Yeah, saw that somewhere too, didn't help. :(

Could it be something besides my OS? Does multi-core have anything to do with it?

Can't see how. 64-bit Vista with 4-core AMD here.
Could be whatever. Might work if you do a fresh reinstall of NWN, but can't say.

Specific graphics card with specific driver could also be an issue.

Some longshot suggestions.

Download the gog version again, but make sure it doesn't dl to program files (you are using the gog downloader, yes?). After dl, right click the setup.exe file and give it admin rights BEFORE installing the game. Make sure you don't have any anti-virus or anti-malware programs running. Make sure your firewall isn't interfering with the dl.

Once installed, give it admin rights. If it doesn't work, try compatibility mode for every earlier version. Try disabling the three graphics options. Run nwn config and try different video settings. Run the test. Make sure your monitor can handle the resolutions. Make sure your video card doesn't have custom settings that force all programs to display a certain way. This may be preventing NWN from displaying. Make sure that you don't have any other custom settings for your system, perhaps settings you forgot you set, that may be interfering.

Try booting your system in safe mode, and see if you can start NWN that way. Are you having problems with any other games from gog?
