Hi,
This is my first time playing NWN, and although i've played a lot pen&paper RPG's, i've never played as an EVIL character before, and i must say i'm very underwhelmed by the experience.

I thought i was gonna play as a badass, scheming, lying, corrupting, manipulating assassin, but instead i have to play as a foul-mouthed, straight forward douchbag'y robber. The only way so far i've been able to stay away from losing my evil alignment is by robbing everyone i see.
And if i'm gonna be EVIL, i'm sure as hell not gonna lower myself to the level of a simple thug.

I though i was gonna have a code. That i was going to lie my way in and out of lucrative situations, win the hearts and minds of the people, only to use them and manipulate them to work for my personal, secret goal; CONTROL OF NEVERWINTER.. Or something like that..

Have i missed something? Please, ideas and tips are greatly appreciated.

Now i have to get back on the streets. I have some gutters to crawl through and som children to rob.

You didn't buy an adventure when you bought NWN. You bought a platform on which many modules/adevntures can run. What you are asking for is not going to be provided for by the first campaign. HoTU has a sort of evil path and there's an evil module to carry on from it .. (when I rememeber thename I will post it, sry it's late *grin*) , but the vault has thousands of modules and some of them tell a wonderful rogure story or evil story or... (most anything you can think of in some cases *grin*)

Being evil is more of a mindset than an action. It's the state of ethically believing you are of an opposing force to good.
The kicks of being evil dawn upon people on different levels. You my good sir sound like you are more of a power-hungry evil as opposed to most thugs who are of the opinion that small children are inferior and can be bullied with ease. Or that they like lolly-pops.

But all evil begins at a root place. You can start with the thuggery. Which, by the sounds of it, you have become dissatisfied with. And that is when you know there is more to the dark side of the world than candy and pocket change.

With this, like most will, experiment.
Are you a maniacal evil who finds himself fantasizing of mutilating small animals? Or are you the kind of evil who is in it for the power?
There are avenues for determining your end goal and developing a plan of action with which you will exceed your prior expectations.
There are means by which you can delve into your values and draw out the true essence of your alignment!
SEEK THEN THE TRUE SOURCE OF YOUR EVIL AND CONQUER, RAID, PLUNDER, DESTROY, ENSLAVE, DEVOUR, AND RULE!!!

As far as the game is concerned however I haven't the faintest clue.
Nais, lucianadonis. Are you the dungeonmaster? :P

Thanks, Shia_luck. I've had a look at some of those modules but didn't download any as i try to avoid community-created content (ever since way to many crappy Oblivion-mods). But you say the NWN-stuff is ACTUALLY good?

Perhaps i should have my girlfriend check them out. I'm writing my exams while she's in the other room getting annoyed by having to bully children around... No, wait.. She just transmorphed into "GOOD"..

This won't go down well..

*laughing* ... Well, last time I checked there were 4032 or something modules so no, I doubt all of them are good. But I've been playing years and I haven't run out of good modules to play yet. There's reviews, ranking systems, awards etc to help guide you and the bioware forums are a good place to ask too. But most anything in the hall of fame, if it is the type of thing you like, will be good. The reviews have the most detail btu not every module can be reviewed.

Bioware had a wonderful team of experts doing a rush job on a module to help promote the toolset. SoU and HoTU are better, butsome community modules havebeen supported and expanded and improved for like 8 years. Seriously good.

Have fun :) Links

There's naturally variable quality among all the user-made modules, but the high-end user modules (and there are quite a few of them) actually surpass the stock game content by a fairly wide margin.
You can play this character in the first campaign, but if you talk yourself into the hearts of the people to further your sinister goals, they'll like you, of course...

I think this is a problem that most RPGs suffer from. It's easy for a game to tell that your character is a psychopath. As soon as what is evil about you is mostly that you're planning to use all these maggots as stepping stones on your path to power, the game has no way to detect that. I've seen some RPGs offer specific dialogue options for doing good things with evil intentions, but that's apparently hard to get right . Most of the time I wouldn't want to use them because I don't actually *care* about the, uh, maggots, I have no reason to do anything bad to them or lie to them for no reason. In fact that would be highly illogical, since I need them to trust me in order to reach the ultimate evil goal.

So I just imagine I'm evil and ignore what the game thinks I am.

Plus isn't it built in to a scenario that you are promoting good when the scenario laid out is to defeat undead, bandit, brigands, ogres, etc.? If he starts out evil, won't all the player's actions tend to push him toward good, or at least neutral?
I still say a karatur module would be a better and new module for a crpg for a change.

You need to try out "Blackguard" or "A Hunt Through the Dark".

Thanks for the tip. I'll give them a try. :)

I haven't played A Hunt Through the Dark, but people should be aware that the writing in Blackguard is a fairly juvenile take on "evil" characters, so in terms of the character you're playing you won't get much beyond a "lots of teen rage" type of evil. That said, the series is quite well designed in terms of combat, so if you enjoy interesting, challenging combat with a melee character then I'd recommend it simply for that.
