I wanted to document this someplace, and I hope this counts as an appropriate place.
This version of the game on GOG sits here, essentially abandoned.
It hasn’t received the updates (or the DLC) that the version on Steam has, nor does it even have the Achievements implemented.
I am TIRED of game developers DUMPING releases on GOG, but not supporting them afterwards!
GOG's DRM-Free policy isn't much of a selling point, when the games don't even work properly, versus their releases on Steam! (Not that I'm going to start buying on Steam again; I'd assume stop buying these games AT ALL if I can't get properly functioning versions DRM-Free).
It’s also a glitchy mess; didn’t have ANY of these problems with Pinstripe!
My machine is able to run a vast range of AAA PS3 era titles FLAWLESSLY, but the cut scenes in Neversong “chugged” and “sputtered” (froze and unfroze intermittently), before finally crashing without finishing; at least it returns to the gameplay afterwards, but I didn’t get the experience of the “EMOTIONAL” plot that the game is supposed to have; ended up watching the cut scenes on YouTube, if only to confirm that my copy of the game, in fact, “gave up” trying to play those cut scenes.
There’s been times when the game froze and crashed when I was simply traveling from one area to another, otherwise, the load times are still atrocious, about 30-60 seconds at a time.
Beating the second boss the first 2-3 times, the game just stuck on that scene without the new song appearing, and Peet became horizontal (parallel) to the ground, and would just slide along it, and without being able to jump; the boss battle music was still playing, and the gates on either side didn’t lower, either, so I couldn’t proceed; I just kept repeating that boss battle until the game finally decided to work as intended.
After looking up a walkthrough for missing collectibles, I can also confirm that at least 4 of them weren’t appearing where they were supposed to.
Tried contacting the developer (Thomas Brush himself) about all these issues with the game, but all I’ve heard since then is the sound of crickets.
Honestly, I’d like it if this game just got the updates, achievements and DLC it gets on Steam, and then I could finally experience it the way it was intended to be, as if the opportunity for enjoying it hasn’t been sucked out of the whole experience yet.
It's a shame, especially when I consider how great of a game Pinstripe was, I was looking forward to the latest release by that game's same developer.
And, no, before you ask, uninstalling and re-installing the game didn't resolve ANY of these issues.
