alesbukovsky: Is there a method how the enemy (e.g. whale) selects target for it's action or is it random? The action card is placed in front of a crew member, but another one is eventually often hit. So far I am only using single whaleboat, so it is possible the random pick is within the targeted whaleboat only. Either way, this makes strategizing rather obsolete, IMO.
Hey alesbukovsky, first of all, thanks for reaching out to us.
The card is placed in front of the target whaleboat, but there is now way to know the exact target. Some attacks are random, other follow some rules (for example sharks tend to attack bleeding target). It has been made in this way for two reasons:
- Represent the unpredictability given by the whales size. You know it is coming for your whaleboat but the size of the creature make it impossible to determine who is going to attack
- Given the point above, some commands take an additional strategic component. Take for example the command "Protective maneuver", giving immunity to a single target. If you knew who he was going to be, there would be no strategic choice about who to protect
Of course, this is our take on the topic, I'm sure there could be different opinions about it and also other ways to do it, even better ones, but I hope I clarified why we did it this way. As usual, we are open to new ideas and suggestions.
