The game installs fine on Windows 7 64bit (up to date) and it does run, except the quicktime videos don't play (any of them, from the intro, to age flybys, to Achenar and Sirrus' prison books). So for example, when you load the game it goes right to the Myst book sitting there, or when you ride up the elevator it just immediately jumps to the end. The latest version of Quicktime is installed and the videos work if I play them by going into the Myst folder. The transitions also seem to be stuck in zip mode, despite changing the settings.
There is at least one other person having similar issues (although he is reporting a crash as well, but I haven't gotten that far). http://www.gog.com/en/forum/myst_series/crashing_issue

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this, but it looks like Myst may be one of the GoG games in need of a Win7 compatibility pass.

I had the exact same issue but then I changed the game to run in XP mode and then the movies started working just fine.
Videos play fine here on Windows 7 64bit. I believe they ran fine before I disabled the compatability mode as well.

Yep, switching to XP compatibility mode did the trick for the videos. I feel stupid for not trying that, although the game still seems stuck in zip mode.
the game installs fine on the original disk with windows 7 , installed under win 98 compatability then untick before playing, installed quicktime on disk this time.
however saving the game is the problem. saves some times & not others.
Is the GOG version any better as I have the the myst box set with all the myst games good valve for the 5 myst games, and only purchased them about a year or so ago. Had some of the games already but the disk were pretty scratched & they were advertised as all on dvd & re authorized for xp, but that wasn't the case
I had the same problem, XP compatibility fixed the intro videos, but the transitions still won't play.
any other ideas?
I am having the same problem as Plumgas.

I also can not get the top drop down bar to drop
I am burning a copy of the game installer to a dvd right now so i can delet the Riven files and try again. yes, i fell that this version works better after many hours ( 40+ ) of try to get my 5 cd version to lay at least this 1 will. hope this thread is still active.
DAAAAAAAH!!!!! Control/space bar fixed the above problems.

I use windows 7 professional 64 bit but was getting corrupted graphics.
The book at the start would glitch and i just got white noise instead of any graphics once i tried to start the game.
I have an Nvidia GTX 275 and solved this issue by selecting Direct 3d HAL in the setup instead of Direct 3d T&L HAL. The transform and lighting part being selected caused all my problems.
And goodness it looks great 1680 x 1050 . happy nostalgic days....
I am having the same corrupted graphics problem, along with a very delayed mouse response.
As krafty64, I have Windows 7 Professional 64-bit with an NVidia GTX 275, but in the setup program, I only have a "Direct 3d" option (the "Glide" option is unavailable). I don't see a "Direct 3d HAL" option anywhere.
I've tried various compatibility settings and see no difference.
Am I missing something?

Thanks Namur! I have 4 options on the dropdown list, but they all started the same with "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1", and the rest was cut off and could not be seen. I just tried all of them individually, and (of course) that last one I tried did work. I can play now and the graphics are fine! It is slightly jerky in some spots, but I can live with that.
Thanks again!

You're welcome. Have fun ;)
Can I borrow from this topic? I have the 10th anniversary edition of Myst and Windows 7, and my videos also aren't playing. I switched to XP compatibility mode (my choices are XP Service Pack 2 and Service Pack 3) but under both settings, when I start the game, I get a pop-up error that says "Myst32 requires Windows 95. You are running Windows NT."
My opening video of Riven doesn't work either, and changing the compatibility modes doesn't work for that either. I'd uninstalled my QuickTime and installed the one that comes with the CD and that fixed one issue with Myst (when previously all I saw was a hand) but now no videos play.
Switching the compatibility mode let the movies play for me, but is the sound supposed to be really crackly and poppy? I really want to start playing but this doesn't seem right.
I was having this same issue and thanks to krafty64 taking the time to post what worked for him I am enjoying myst again.
