Hi all, I've recently begun delving into the Myst series. I started Riven first on Steam but felt like I'd be better off playing through the series in order to get the full effect of the story. I received Myst: Masterpiece Edition as a gift from a kind member of the community and I'm currently playing it right now, but I wanted to know...

Is Uru a more standalone game, story-wise or does it make more sense when you've played the other games?

I ask this because I'm considering buying it if it doesn't require me to finish the rest of the games first. If it requires me to finish the rest of the games first, I'll just buy it whenever I finish the rest because I have really limited funds right now. I'm going to have to just buy them one-by-one for now.

I appreciate any answers given!

Uru is really only relevant to the plot of Myst V: End of Ages.

The core "story" of the Myst series goes in this order chronologically:
Myst - Riven - Myst III: Exile - Myst IV: Revelation - Uru - Myst V: End of Ages

The story following Atrus and his sons is the setting of the first four games.
Uru is largely a separate story. Myst V was created to wrap up the story Uru started.

Awesome, thanks for the response! So basically, I could play Uru and Myst 5 at any point, concurrent with the Atrus story of the first four? In other words, as I play through Myst, Riven, Myst 3, etc, I could play Uru and Myst 5 at any point?

Basically, yes. Uru takes place in the "Present Day" and V as well, while the rest take place approximately in the 1800s.

Awesome, thanks for the clarification. :) I finished the first Myst and I'm currently working on Riven, but I'll probably delve into Uru sometime soon!
