The way I feel about continuing anything whether it be music of a band or a story by an author or even games like Myst...

...is that if I want more of the same then I simply replay the songs, or reread the book, or replay the game, and so on.

I expect people to move on and want to do something else, even musicians, singers, writers, developers, or anyone. If anything I'd probably be a bit disappointed if the same thing kept being made by the same people.

Which is probably why I'm perfectly fine with Myst being what it has been. I'm really not looking forward to more Star Wars stories, nor more Beatles songs, nor more Star Trek, nor more "Dirty Dozen" movies, nor more Rambo movies, nor more "Friday the 13th" movies, nor more of anything that has already been expanded. I'm interested in something new, something different, at the very least something that is its own thing even if similar. Someone else picking up where others left off seems too much like a lack of creativity, or mulling about a dead end, or riding the coattails of old fame.

So, yeah, I'm not interested in more of Myst. Maybe something similar, but for me it's got to be its own thing, not just a continuation and not simply renamed. That's why Obduction seems interesting to me, because it is said not to be a continuation of the same place nor the same beings. There's a chance for a new experience. If I want the old experiences then I'll just replay Myst and Riven, or reflect on my memories of that.

I like what I know of Myst, and of Riven. If I want to know more than that then maybe I'll explore the later games that have already been made and moved beyond "Myst Island". (I find it curious so many people refer to only Myst when there were more games and various other worlds after that.) For me there's more than enough of that to swim in already.

Fair enough, some would feel what you feel but some also would like more Myst content. I've been playing through Obduction and while it is visually stunning, I find it lacking something that the Myst series had, I cannot put my finger on it. I'm only halfway through the game though, so my feelings could change.
