I've been recently trying really hard to get Riven sounds to stream over Skype in order to play together with a friend through Skype share screen. However, Riven has a quirk with playing sounds (I don't really want to say how long it took me to find out the actual reason for the problem).

The observable problem:
After setting up Virtual Audio Cables (VAC), I could get the sound to stream through Skype. However, it turned out it didn't stream ALL the sound. The menu test sounds, the ambient sounds, the music and certain (but not most) action sounds were not sent via Skype.

The real problem:
After lots of reading and experimentation, I managed to find the real reason - Riven sends some sounds to the FIRST audio playback device and NOT to the device set as default. This device in my case is "Speakers" (or headphones, if plugged in). So even if I set the Audio cable as default, a lot of sounds are still going to the Speakers (while the other, I'm guessing the Quicktime movie sounds) are behaving as expected.

Attempted solutions:
1) I managed to stream successfully all sounds by disabling the Speakers device in Windows, which forced Riven to used the next in line, the VAC Line 1. However, that way I was getting no sound myself.
2) I could use Stereo Mix as microphone in Skype, in which case my friend should be getting ALL sounds I am getting. However, that way when he says anything on our voice chat (in Teamspeak), he will be hearing an echo of what he is saying (because I will be streaming it right back at him). This will get annoying real quick, so I would like to avoid it if possible (for the moment it is the best option).

The question:
Can I get Riven to somehow use the default device instead of the FIRST device? If not, is there another way for me to get the end result of "streaming the in-game sound through Skype, hearing the sounds myself", AND having voice communication through another program (Teamspeaker in my case but I would use another if necessary)?

For the moment, the best option seems to be just streaming what sounds I can and describing any non-background sounds I hear to him. He would be losing out on the music and ambient sounds (which are awesome) and potentially on sound clues I fail to pick up and describe (or describe poorly). Not ideal.

I tried solving it myself but I have declared failure at this point and I am desperate. Thank you very much!

I'm having a similar issue trying to stream Riven to an Nvidia SHIELD tablet.
I get no sound at all.

How did you disable the Speakers device on Windows? (I have a new installation of Windows 8.1, which I use only for gaming, and I have not figured out how any of the new settings work.)
