Having some more problems with Riven.
I am unable to load or save games without crashing to desktop, which was already asked in another thread.
Now I've been playing despite this problem (using a virtual machine where I can suspend the whole system rather than quit the application to save). It was working great until I got to the little submarine sequence where you're in an underwater train track system. I got to the schoolhouse and as soon as I clicked on the imager the system got very unstable...audio went into super high pitch mode and then cut out completely. It took several minutes but eventually it calmed back down and I was able to turn around and continue on.
I looked up the video on youtube just so I wouldn't miss anything.
Then I got to the little contraption in the room where two toy people are dangling over a platform. Attempting to activate this object crashed my game to a bluescreen, again after several minutes of cracking audio and stuttering video.
Sad that I lost my progress, but fortunately I hadn't gotten very far and once you know the solutions it's very easy to re-progress.
I would love if GOG could do something about the stability issues in this game.

If you moved the game to a Virtual Machine on account of the 'crash when trying to save' problem, you might want to take a look on the other thread regarding that problem as i posted a solution that worked for DraconicDak. Maybe it will work for you aswell and you can move the game from the Virtual Machine back to the host OS.
As for the Blue Screen, have you tried dropping an older .qts file in the game folder ? I have one somewhere on one of my HDs, as i also had to drop it in the game folder to prevent Riven (not gog's version though) from CTD , so if you can't find one, let me know and i'll upload mine someplace.
You also mentioned sound glitches. If you're on XP try to adjust the level of Sound Hardware Acceleration (you can do it via DxDiag).

This error hasn't repeated since the last bluescreen. Still having the crash to desktop on savegames, though.
I will check out your suggestion from the other thread.
I'm not familiar with a qts file, though. I assume it has something to do with quicktime? How old of a version should I be looking for?
My advice at this time would be to move the game install back to the main/host OS and try the 'game save problem' fix. In case the fix works for you, scrap the install on the VM and use the install on the main OS. That way if you run into more problems you can at lest discard the VM as a variable in the problem(s), should any appear.
Yes, the .qts is indeed a quicktime file. The one i have is probably from QT3. If you run into more CTD's post back here and i'll hunt around for my file and uploaded it someplace.
