I have a Core i7 laptop with an NVIDIA NVS 3100M graphics card, running Windows 7 Enterprise Edition 64-bit. Using NVIDIA drivers 266.58.

- I installed realMYST GOG to C:\Games\realMYST.
- Did not install any updates or cracks.
- Ran setup in Admin mode and set it to HAL only (tried the other setting too), starting with lowest resolution 640x480 16-bit
- For both "RealMYST.exe" and "realMystStart.exe", I set compatibility mode to XP SP2 (I tried ALL of them in sync), checked run in Admin mode, and Disabled visual themes.
- In the NVIDIA Control Panel I tried setting all global antialiasing and anisotropic filtering to both Off as well as Application Controlled.
- Disabled anti-virus software (after installing).

All audio and video seems to work without glitches, except that the framerate is unplayable at perhaps 1-2 frames per second. What am I missing?

Have you tried installing inside the C:\Program Files\ directory? Note that this is not the \Program Files (x86)\ directory. I had problems with low frame rates as well, until installing there. I'm not sure why it would make a difference, but I think it has something to do with the way Windows handles 32bit vs 64bit programs, assuming that everything in C:\Program Files\ should be run with or without some kind of 32bit emulation... or something. Anyway, good luck!

I think I tried it all, with the exception of using the hex edited files. I was under the impression that this would not apply to - or work with - the GOG version of realMYST. But other than that, I think I really tried every suggestion about install location, compatibility settings, run as admin, T&L/HAL, NVIDIA control panel settings, the works.

Everything LOOKS good, it's just slow as molasses. And with a Core i7 CPU plus a NVS 3100M GPU, it should run circles around any rig that this game was designed for back in 2000. I think I'm at the end of the road here. Bummer...

I can now definitely say that it is a compatibility issue, not a lack of performance of my laptop. I installed realMYST inside a Windows XP SP3 virtual machine on VMWare, and realMYST is actually playable (not smooth) at 1280x1024 inside the virtual machine. So I imagine that under native Windows 7, it should be able to perform nicely even at higher resolutions.

hahaha, classic! Emulation for the win! Glad you got it working, though it is to bad you have had to go through all the overhead of installing a new instance of XP. Who knows, maybe Wine will come out with a release for Windows 7 and we could have that to fall back on.

I own the retail version and I'm hesitant purchasing the game from GOG. I'm not sure what the game version is, RealMYST.exe shows modified date of 13.10.2000. On the starting area frame rate drops to below 2fps. When looking straight ahead I get above my monitors refresh rate, when facing to left fps is ~ 2.
