Retrograde: Thanks Namur, got mine to work with your hints. If anyone else needs more detailed instructions here's what i did to get it to work under win7 x64:
1. Change the setup utility (realMYSTSetup.exe) in your realMyst folder to run as admin always
2. Set the RealMystStart exe to windows xp sp3 compatibility and check off run as admin.
3. Set your 3D Hardware to Direct3d HAL and
NOT Direct3d T&L HAL
4. Set your resolution to whatever you want (I'm running 1920x1080 32 bit)
5. Set your texture quality to High (that's what I'm running at least)
6. I have Full Scene Anti-Aliasing on and it works fine, ymmv
7. Select ok and run RealMystStart.exe (the exe with the yellow gog icon and not the myst book one).
8. Hopefully play like me.
Hope this helps.
protodoc: I have done all of this step by step and still can't get the game to run.
I am running Windows 7 64 and have a NVIDIA Geforce GT220 card with the latest drivers.
The game will come on for about a second and then the computer reverts back to the desktop immediately.
Any other suggestions that I could try?
Thanks!
2 things:
1. If you are running a 64 bit system Make sure that you have realMyst installed in "Program Files" and not "Program Files (x86)"
2. You Can Still Use T&L and HAL in realMYST. Of course I have the nVidia 9800GT. The problem is that you do not need to use XP Service Pack 3 mode. Do not use compatibility mode and do not change of the compatibility settings except for running the app as administrator.
In the realMYST main Directory, there is an application named realMYST Setup, run this as admin. It should detect 3d Hardware automatically. Under Basic Settings, select the first instance of your video card that has HAL and T&L. Then select the resolution that your desktop can handle. It helps to have the latest Drivers installed for your graphics card.
nVidia users go here:
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us ATI Users go here (I feel sorry for ATI users after seeing the way they have to figure out what type of card they have instead of searching for the actual brand of the card. It should be noted that the nVidia Patches automatically uninstall the old set of drivers);

The next part is for nVidia Users:
Open up the nVidia control panel and select Manage 3D settings.
On the right hand pain, there should be 2 tabs Global Settings and Program Settings.
Click on the "Add" button and select the file realmyst.exe and change the settings there.
Run realMystStart.exe as administrator.
there you go, problem solved.
