After almost 20 yrs, I'm getting back intothe Myst series starting with Real Myst.

The problem is it crashes anywhere from 1 to 30 minutes into the game. I get the usual Windows bla, bla, bla about having to close and they may send me a solution(never happened in my life).
I have a 350MHZ AMD FX 6300 six-core processor. 4G of RAM.
the operating system is a 64 bit system.
The graphics chip set(video card?) is a AMD Radeon R7 200 Series.

If any of this makes sense, I'd really appreciate some help for the old dude.

thanx in advance!

I'm running Windows 10x64 build 14986, with an R9 380 4GB GPU, system has 16GBs system ram, 8-core AMD cpu--no problems whatsoever with the game--can run for hours without a crash.

But what I did was install the 4.1.0 version of Quicktime components that come with the game, and then after that I installed direct from the Apple site the 7.7.9 version of Quicktime on top of the 4.1.0 version--I allowed it to install to the same directory as 4.1.0 default installed into. After that I opened Programs and Features, found "Quicktime 7" and used the "Repair" option--and presto! All the Myst games are running much better than they did with either the 4.1.0 included QT elements installed by themselves, or with Quicktime 7.7.9 elements installed by themselves in my builds of Win10x64...;)

That's what worked for me--I found that if you simply install the 7.7.9 QT over the 4.1.0 QT included with the game--the games still don't run that well--or they sometimes crash--until I used the repair function on the 7.7.9's as mentioned above.

Good luck!

Had the same problem. I solved the issue by setting the compatibility mode to Windows XP Service Pack 3. Right-click the realMyst shortcut on your desktop, then choose Properties->Compatibility. Check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" Then choose "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)".
