Myst Masterpiece Edition
At first I had problems with videos not playing and saving crashing the game, but I followed the instructions on the forums re: compatibility settings. Sound is smooth with these settings too, but not with win95 for example. I didn't use that old installer that forces win95 compatibility mode.
However, the game locks up/freezes randomly while playing, some minutes after loading/starting a new game. It has happened on the map screen, while moving around, interacting with something etc.
It doesn't seem like a very common issue, but surely someone else here has experienced it?
Current compatilibity settings:
XP SP2/3 (seems identical)
Disable visual themes
Disable desktop composition
Run program as administrator
I have the latest Nvidia drivers (192.61) and DirectX. Win7 x64, DEP is only on for essential programs, installer passed integrity check, UAC is off.

Does the game come with different graphics setup options? You will beable to find this if it excists from the start menu, gog folder, then myst folder.

Nope, none.
You could try running it on a single cpu core, to do so just ctrl-alt-del with the game open, open the task manager and go to the processes tab, then right click the myst process and choose set core affinity and set it to core 0.

Using only core 1 it froze after a few mins, using only core 0 it lasted a bit longer until I activated a painting in the library. The painting has worked fine plenty of times before, so it seems to just be the randomness messing with me. Certain areas, such as the generator, might be more prone to lock up, but I'm hardly gathering statistically significant data here.
The latest Nvidia drivers seem to be the 195.62.
Maybe try those to see if it makes any difference

Err, it seems I typed the wrong numbers, but I actually have 196.21 (which are the latest ones :))

Ah, ok then. In that case i guess mine, 195.62, aren't the latest ;)
If you haven't done so already you might want to contact gog support about this.

Thanks, but I did right before starting this thread.
Maybe the whole issue is too obscure.
I have the same problem. If you find a solution, please post it here.

Seems pretty unsolvable from my end. Tried messing around with quicktime (alternative) settings for audio and video, with no luck. I can't think of anything more to try, except wasting 20GB of HDD space to run windows xp as a virtual OS.
GoG pretty much told me "no support for windows 7 yet, sorry", so it doesn't seem like much can be done until they decide to do something.
And now they're running a 25% discount on Real Myst, which I might actually go for, except it has its own set of problems.

Ok thx anyway.
Plenty of us use Windows 7, so I say we keep threads like these alive. I'm experiencing the OP's exact same symptoms on two household computers (Win 7 Home Pre 64-bit and Win 7 Ult, 64-bit).

I have the same problems and the same setup. Every time it happens to me, it is when I am manipulating something with an animation.
Windows 7 Ultimate X64, latest drivers.
