Hi! I have refrained from buying Riven here because people say its the 5 cd version. I owned the 10th anniversary dvd edition and thought this would be a downgrade. However, It seems that the 10ththing anniversary dvd wasn't actually the DVD edition but rather all the data from the 5 cd version compiled onto the dvd. (This is the version that Steam apparently has.) Does that mean that GOG's edition is essentially the same thing? Or is it somehow less quality? Thanks.

If the anniversary DVD version is the same as the 5CD version, then it's the same as what GOG has. The GOG version and the 5CD version are essentially identical except for the disk checks and the like. But the only actual difference between the original CD version and the original DVD version is a slightly higher resolution for the cutscenes and movies, anyway. The stills and gameplay are identical.
