! Sorry, forgot to specify this is about Riven in the title.

I installed it through the Galaxy client on my laptop, and got to a bug pretty close to the end that I couldn't get past so I installed the installer version on an XP of mine to find out the save was incompatible. After some searching I have concluded that the version on offer from the Galaxy client is the DVD version while the installer is still the CD version.

Just thought people should know about this. I have a feeling the CD version will be more stable (actually had to disable compatibility mode to get it to work on my Win 10 laptop), but I haven't tested this theory.

EDIT: Just launched the installer (CD) version on my laptop, and just from the beginning it already seems a lot more stable. I highly recommend against using the Galaxy version

EDIT 2: And, just tried the puzzle on my desktop and it is definitely not just my laptop that it is bugged on. In the interest of avoiding any possible spoilers, I'll put what puzzle is bugged (in that I can't do anything with it) in this link. I'll quick get a save game just before that for the CD version to make sure that's not bugged.

EDIT 3: Ok, two things, one, the puzzle isn't bugged at all on the CD version GOG offers. Two, the bug isn't as game breaking as I thought it was, it was just bugged in a way so that I didn't realize I had to click and hold the items (again, keeping it spoiler free). There is still a good second or two of lag between releasing the key and the item placing, but at least I will be able to finish the game now. Also, worth noting, the CD version seems to be WORLDS more stable, but the FMV (only looked at the intro movies) do seem to be slightly lower quality on the CD version. I wonder if the video files themselves can just be replaced, but that will have to wait for another time because it is past midnight and I have work tomorrow. =P

tl;dr: This is about Riven. Galaxy = DVD version, Installer = CD, DVD definitely has notably higher quality videos (at least the intros), but is a LOT buggier. Recommend using the installer (CD) version ATM.

Well, I'm happy that they at least gave us an option between CD and DVD version.
