After playing a lot of point and click adventures, I asked people what I should try next. Well I heard Myst being mentioned a few times so I delved into it for the first time. I just tried it out and perhaps it's me, but I have a few complaints. Probably unjustified but try to step in my shoes...
All I experience are pictures, where ever I click. There's no person, I am not sure if I am a person myself doing things. No dialogue, no people, no background other than a vague intro. I understand puzzles make the game fun, but I always played point and click adventure for the adventure, the story, etc. Of course puzzles are fun to solve but it just feels like a place with nothing but puzzles and switches. I am not even sure what I am doing or supposed to do. There is no person to give any directions at all. I feel like there's not even a point to it. I think I played a myst game before in my youth, and got quickly thrown off. I thought it was because I did not like Point and click adventures back then. However, I hope I am wrong because I bought the game so I really want to give it a shot. Sadly I am quite disappointed. The free games from signing up on GOG are more interesting by far, and some even date back way before Myst!
Sorry for the rant and I hope I misjudged it but I maybe someone could fill me in a bit. Oh and I did read the manual which says I am explorer on an island and need to figure everything out. But for what reason? If I suddenly landed on a complete deserted island, exploring the lost culture is the last thing on my mind. Getting water and food first, then I might consider exploring the buildings. Or am I taking a too much realistic approach to this?
