I played the original Myst back when I was a kid. Now I'm in college and want to replay them, mainly because I never finished Riven as a kid. But, as I'm trying to get back into Myst, some things really bug me.

1. The intro movie plays, but when you get the Myst portal book, the video that is supposed to show you the island (flying around it) never plays. This somewhat bugs me since it was a neat feature at the time for the original games.

2. The transitions don't work. Either they just are non-existent in the Masterpiece edition or they are CPU-bound, in which case I need a way to nuke the CPU-clock speed *only for this game*, or something essentially similar (I've tried slowdown and other freeware with no success.) If someone can confirm that this is because it's CPU-bound and doesn't know of any program that fixes it, I can try to hack together a program to encapsulate and regulate it. I know C++ well enough.

3. It's not fullscreen. A minor problem, but it's so weird having blackness surround the window (which when you hover over to the edge appears as a basic style window).

I'm using Win8 64-bit. An overclocked AMD processor (so its fast) with 6-cores (shouldn't really matter). I have QuickTime Alternative installed. I cannot play in any compatibility mode or else the game seizes and I lose nearly all control over my entire machine (it's really quite terrifying). I love the series, but I want to play it like it was originally designed, not in a "meh" way since it doesn't really work on modern PC's.

If anyone has even possibly happened across this, I got WinXP running in VMware Player and tried it with the same results. I don't know if VMware Player is able to slow down running programs similar to the DOSBox cycles, but I couldn't find it in my perusal. I really do hope there is a way to fix this. If anyone knows anything, please help.
