For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to read the papers picked up in the library beside the books... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do you mean the red and blue pages? if so, you can't read them, you put them in the red and blue books, respectively to advance the plot.

There's no such thing as an "inventory" in Myst, really. You can only hold one item (red or blue page) at a time IIRC.
