I recently tested out a mod for Myst III that I thought was decent. Everything is AI upscaled, including all videos, which are running at a faster frame rate. The mod pack is about 15 gigs, compressed.

I may have a few minor nitpicks about this mod pack. At the very beginning, you better not look too closely at baby Yeesha's face. The face is constantly morphing and changing, only because the AI's filling in visual data that isn't there. (You might not see it in the YouTube video, but you'll see it as you're playing the game.)

Some cloud formations tend to look like watercolor paintings. You'll notice that in Amateria. Rock walls in J'nanin may look more textured than they should from a distance. Beyond that, this upscale attempt worked rather well. At least where it counts.

This all uses a modded version of ResidualVM:

Instructions are easy to figure out, although I failed at making this work with the DVD version of the game. Only the GOG version worked out of the box. Your mileage may vary.

I tested this on Arch Linux, running a RTX 4080 and also on a Windows machine, running a GTX 1070.

Additional info from moddb:

On Windows the simplest way to play this mod is to use GOG version of the game
and replace residualvm.exe and sdl2.dll with residualvm-hd versions.

Extract the mod archive in the game folder, so the mods directory is at the same level as the Data and M3Data directories.

GOG installation works also with wine but native is better.

If you have already myst3 DVD, only DATA and M3DATA are needed.
You can also extract data and m3data from gog installer with innoextract.

1. Create game folder including DATA M3DATA MODS dirs.
2. Extract residualvm-hd(Linux, Mac or Windows build) to game folder.
3. Start residualvm, add the game and make simple setup from gui and you are done.

Gamepad support:
add "joystick_num=0" to the "[residualvm]" section of the residualvm.ini
start residualvm with "--joystick" parameter

Tested with Logitech F710 on arch-linux.
