So another fine member of this board was good enough to point out my old Exile cds would indeed work on Vista. I did a full install on my pc which appeared to function fine when I did a quick test. We headed off on vacation planning to play through it only to find it won't start without the original CD (which I left at home because I didn't need it!) . Do I have any way of getting this to work without the CD?

As far as I know there's no official way to do that with games from that era, besides using a no cd crack. You can find plenty of those with a simple search, but I don't know which work and can or can't be trusted. Good luck!

Where can I buy Exile as a download??? Any why is it the one MYST series game that is NEVER present anywhere with the others such as on GOG or Steam, etc... ??? Any ideas?

Exile can't be purchased digitally anywhere, and it isn't the only one. Myst IV: Revelation is also no available anywhere. According to Rand Miller, it's due to licensing issues, but he would like to get them worked out.
