I'm a huge fan of Jagged Alliance 1+2 and Xenonauts, and this looks like a game that ticks all the boxes for me - only thing is: I'm really not into playing with a stealthy approach (remaining unseen/sneaking up on enemies, avoiding making sounds etc.).

Can you go about playing this game with a more head-on approach, or is stealth "mandatory"?

I´m in for almost two hours. And i must say, the initial contact the way i play is always stealth. Knock out the first two unseen and approach a better position.
I think its doable without the stealth though, but defenitly not easier.
According the game description stealth is a very important part of the gameplay, and must be used to fight enemies with same equipment as your team. I have doubt you can easily fight through all the levels without sneak kills at least medical bots.

Thanks for the replies.

I've seen a couple of Let's Play-videos and it does look like a game you're supposed to play with a stealthy approach, so I think I'll pass.

Give the game a chance, it is really cool :) . Don't buy it but try a demo version first, personal experiences is always better then videos.

Stealth is a must, early on, but as you gain upgrades and levels it becomes a lttle less important. I found a handy guide for those of us just starting out, and it looks like one of those games that gets very, very good if you hang with it.

Stealth is kinda a must as the moment you alert the enemies they have perfect knowledge of your positions and will hone in on you. So it is advisable to thin down the herd and disable specific ones at the start of the battle.

As you get stronger it becomes less of an issue but is still there. There is only so much damage you can output.
