Is a joystick and controller required, or can I play with a keyboard and mouse?

The game, like most sports games, is built to be played with a controller. I tried the demo a few days ago and my Xbox One controller mapped and worked flawlessly. You can also play the game with a keyboard, but it won't be easy.

My mouse doesn't work with the game, I don't know if it's intended.
EDIT:
Dev': "FAQ: Alternative to controller is keyboard only. Mouse is not supported. "
