I used to play this game a lot, but stopped after my latest hardware upgrade, because it simply didn't work anymore. I figured I'd give it a shot now, since GOG releases are usually optimized (or, they work at least) for modern PCs.

I'm averaging 10 fps in the menu, 0.5 in-game.

I've tried dumping all the settings into the minimums, just to see if it would make a difference. It did not; it's exactly the same. I've also done the classics like running in compatibility mode and as administrator.

Here are my specs:

OS: Win 8.1 (Yeah, I know. Here's to hoping that isn't the cause though)
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1050T
Graphics: ATI AMD Radeon R9 Sapphire (Latest drivers.)
RAM: 16GB DDR3

So, anyone got any suggestions?

PS: First-time poster, so sorry if it's not the right place.

I'm on 8.1 too and it works perfectly for me, so it's not that.

Have you tried forcing single core? Reinstalling? Restarting your computer? Checking in (iirc for Radeon it is) Catalyst if the exe is added and has special option set for it?
(I know, i'm not much help, but i try)

Forcing it to run on a single core greatly lowered the already dreadful performance. It did have something to do with CCC though. I did a complete graphics swipe and reinstalled the drivers along with .NET and now I'm sitting comfortably at 60+ fps with everything maxed. =)

Now it's time to see which mods will work...
