Vanamond3: Must be a version difference, squid830, because I am always alone when it happens despite having 8 companions in my party, and I'm matched against as many as 5 at a time.

squid830: I probably should have mentioned I'm pretty much exclusively playing Viking module. It seems that they've made town fights less annoying in that.
And I mostly play Prophesy of Pendor (free and awesome).
Town fights with bandits are pushovers, Red Brotherhood or Snake Cult attacks can be more difficult,
but if it's the more rare Scorpion Assassins, it's more than likely I get my ass handed to me.

Thank you for the replies. The fights did get easier, but my problem was not that they were hard. My problem was the aggravation of being jumped by robbers despite having 50-136 men supposedly covering my back. Even after I made my first character undisputed ruler of Calradia, he still seems to like strolling the city streets alone. :)
