I have really enjoyed playing M+B since the promo giveaway, but I didn't get Warband at the cheap price as I read somewhere that it was not worth it if you did not want to play multi-player.

So would you recommend Warband for the other additions to the game, other than multi-player? Or just as well play the original game?

Thanks :)

It is certainly worth buying. It adds new kingdom, gameplay and fighting mechanics, many new features (such as bandit camps, creating your own kingdom, marriage, buying land for productive enterprises)... Plus, tons of the best M&B mods are Warband only.

Also, you can download it from TaleWorlds and try it before you'll buy it. It's character-level limited version (you can only level up to level 7 or so, I think).

I didn't know about the demo on TaleWorlds site, I will go and have a look :)
You're welcome. :)

But, unfortunately, you probably won't be able to see such things as marriage or CYOK, because of the character limit. Such things are experienced as high-level character.
Well, you can experience even things like that, but you'll probably have to cheat (and increase your stats, renown etc. greatly).

I found the Warband multiplayer shit and heres a list of reasons why.
No crouch 'stick out your ass much' as an archer and it's worse for a foot soldier even if your shields facing the right way they can shoot your head or feet (priority feet because of weird amount of arrow drop/ i know i actually do archery).
No stats means targetting reticules are SHIT plus it's in a trine style which is complete CRAP for something that may or may not drop half the trine height as travelled.
King of Ping: i live in Australia; using a long weapon like a spear and getting the shot in first at the correct distance with 200ms ping will equate to YOU being the one that gets murder i mean wtf?!? (makes you rage so bad.
Actually that point is SOOOO bad i will enlighten you further the game is HEAVILY close combat oriented and online it seems you cannot kill someone without getting the complete drop on them with a FAST weapon.
Two handed axe of the highest tier more often than not will glance off their back alerting them and somehow they can swing round and kill you faster then you can get in a second shot.
In fact I'd go so far as to say there's quite a lot of hacking going on because in single player when you block there's a window of opportunity to strike; in the multiplayer experience players recover from being blocked quicker than it takes you to strike after block.
Secondly weapons pen through corners of shields somehow (most likely ping related) i don't mean caught flanked i mean facing them square on.
The i circle you and get 5 shots to your 2 wtf?!? this isn't quake
The you are slower because your backpedalling with a sheild makes shields neigh USELESS... but you have to have one cause... big open field... archers.
Who get run down flipping easily.
If the multiplayer was set up to enable unit'ing combat would be a lot more fun, but no; no in game chat means everyone out for their own personal kill as bad as WAR THUNDER.
The controls are shit floaty and never seeming to do what you want.
The spinning about is making me sea sick :P
Theres no characterization so no way to improve your speed meaning the ever unhelpful cavalry piss off while you leg it to a third of the battlefield out in the open.
Anouther note on customization LIMITTED TO ROLE AND COUNTRY... no you can't own that full size shield you must use a round shit one of your country, no as the archer you may not also equip a shield and sword.
The timer is by far the biggest piece of shit, 5 minute rounds you can get killed in the first 30 seconds of and be like well may as well go read a book.
If you spend too much time considering equipment at the start you don't get to play the first round and have to wait the full 5 minutes to play, that's if you came in at the start of the round.
To my mind multiplayer is the worst part about M&B warband waiting for 10 minutes through a 30 second stint of being a spearman getting hacked by someone with a shortsword.
M&B warband can go die in a house fire.

Singleplayer however is brilliantly fun flanking on horse the line of archers (even though balanced warcleaver may not kill due to needing 2 shots), flanking during a seige and cleaving your way to victory because military tactics seem to be eyes forward towards the nearest enemy boys and try to spread past them.meaning they always face the central mass.
Of course this is marred by the unit count cheating of the AI leaders.

Quite frankly i spent 2 and a half days playing single player to figure out how BROKE it is (no way to improve standing once you have your own fief as the unit count cheating means you never field an army strong enough against the world going to war with you & not being able to oppose, but sit in your castle while they regenerate troops like the borg means negative relations because somehow the saudi's know and care about your local farms being burnt enough to break off ties and declare war even though you have NEVER lost a battle in over 5000 battles [the nail in the grave not being able to do anything about gaining troops as mercenaries are too few and far between and you can't recruit from hostile nations]).
I spent half a day realising how broke multiplayer is.
Fact of the matter is as far as multiplayer goes.... Build & Shoot SHITS ALL OVER THIS PRODUCT even with the amount of griefers and hacks.

MaceyNeil: <snip>
The crouching and spending time on equipment part, yeah, that sucks (there's crouching in Napoleonic Wars, as an aside).

In regard to the fighting issues: all of them are more than likely due to your ping. With a sub-100ms ping or a bit above, the combat comes entirely down to mind games and skill; slow weapon users can kill fast weapon users for sure. With the shield piercing issue, yeah that's ping too. 5 hits to the 2, that's likely latency making it so you didn't actually hit them (if I understand you correctly). For the window-to-strike-after blocking, you actually do have enough time to get a swing in; I believe the timing is the same in MP as SP, but again probably not with that ping. I can't empathize with control floatiness either; do you feel it's the same in SP? Lastly, I feel your issues with the dying-in-30s-wait-4.5min bit would be lesser if the fight was fairer for you, and also in different modes. Someone should really get an Aussie sever going, heh.

For customization and skill building, native MP doesn't have it, but cRPG (there's another one like it too, can't remember the name) would probably be right up your alley. Customization and skills that stay with you over time. Unit stuff? That seems to be more prevalent in Napoleonic wars with regiments but could exist in Warband too, with Teamspeak or Mumble.

For SP, well, it's a bit hard trying to take on the world yourself, I'd suggest getting/making some vassals.

I don't own Warband, but with most other games that have serials, one just needs to click on the game in one's Library, click on 'More', and one should see a 'Serial Keys' item in the dropdown list. (I'm not sure if it's the same in Galaxy, as I just use the website.)
