neumi5694: Does Trilogy offer anything new for those who bought the old package?
MK Trilogy is a cult-classic mashup of all of the previous MK games. It's based on the gameplay of Ultimate 3 but includes the stages and characters from all of the games and by pushing select on certain fighters, you can transform them into their earlier forms, from MK2 or MK1. You can also play as Shao Kahn, Motaro, Kintaro, and Goro. There's also some new characters not playable in 3, such as Rain and Noob Saibot, and a new secret character, Chameleon (The N64 version had a female "Khameleon" ninja, not sure which one is in the PC version but so far it seems to be based on the Playstation version). Trilogy also includes the Brutality finishing maneuver which allows you to pummel your opponent until they explode into chunks, if you know the right combination to do (Still remember Cyrax's by heart: HP HK HP HK HK HP HK HP HK LK LP). It also introduces the Aggression Meter which makes you faster and stronger for a short time after filling it up, as a way to try to counteract players who block too much, since it fills faster when attacks are blocked.
Some limitations occur. The Pit 2 is present but due to the unique way it was animated, the stage fatality was disabled because they would have had to make all new animations and thus, re-digitize the actors. You'll notice that for all characters who didn't exist in MK3 or earlier, all of their fatalities are done in a way which didn't require any new animation from the digitalized actors and thus, they do come off a bit cheap (Rain's upside-downer Fatality comes to mind but I love it for how stupid it is. Give it a try: Forward, Forward, Down, High Punch).
So far the game seems to work right out of the box, even the controller was already good to go. If you love the classic MK's, Trilogy is considered a must-have. It's been a staple of the tournament scene for years.
