Tried playing multi-player with a buddy to test out the game for a lan party. I can host the game. He can join the game. As soon as the game is started though it seems to get out of sync. His screen shows me making moves I didn't make and vice-versa. I have no idea what's going on. It's almost like the AI takes over the other player's turn, but there's no message about sync loss.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Edit:

... has anyone not experienced this while playing a lan game?

Yes! Me and my friend experienced this exact same issue earlier today. We played over 'Moonbase IP'.

After having played one great game together we decided to play again. Starting a new game with slightly different settings, he could see my name join the lobby and whatever team and color I chose. But as soon as we start we are both replaced by AI on eachothers game. Meaning the game launches two regular single-player skirmish botmatch sessions instead of that one multiplayer session. This issue remained for the coming eight matches we tried to start.

He who hosted these games restarted his computer and in a critical luck roll the problem went away. We could play together once again.

Was hoping for a better solution than just hope it goes away... thanks for letting me know it's not only us. Haven't revisited the game since this happened.
