Monster Bash HD 1.0.0.02

Bugs:

Game Settings -> Configure Keys - Does nothing! (ditto from in game)

Begin Game - > press down arrow on Part 3 and game goes into unresponsive state

Requests:

Title Screen - only responds to "enter" Key. Should also respond to "Esc" Key to exit

Playing -> "F1" key to show current key bindings

Needs "Save Game" / "Load Game" - I don't have as much time to play at a stretch as I did 28 years ago.

Questions:

Since when did "F5" restart Level?

... More to come, this is from just a few minutes of play.

-SS (Old AAA Dev who used to visit Apogee in the 90s)
v1.0.2.1

Fixed bugs:

- Game Settings -> Configure Keys - Does nothing! (ditto from in game).
- Begin Game - > press down arrow on Part 3 and game goes into unresponsive state.

Minor Bugs that I've noticed so far:
- Level 3, when you collide with a plant it keeps popping-up the growing-like SFX, no matter the state of the plant.
- Mouse cursor is always visible (but it's unusable). Can you hide it?

Thank you!
Updated to v1.0.4.1

I've finished episode 1, I found these bugs so far:
- If you hit an skull out of your visible area it will de-spawn and never falls.
- When you destroy a zombie head out of the screen space, it explodes but it doesn't sound.
- Final boss was too easy on medium difficulty, Is the health value ok?
- Level 3, when you collide with a plant it keeps popping-up the growing-like SFX, no matter the state of the plant.
- Mouse cursor is always visible (but it's unusable). Can you hide it?

(New findings):
- Episode 2, level 2: Final enemy dialog was unreadable (before the fitght).
- Episode 2, level 2: enemy boss got stucked and almost didn't fight me.

Thanks

I've only just started playing the game and noticed the Part 3 bug in the menu.

Another is that when Johnny is attacked by the snake that hides within walls, if you remain in the same position, the snake will no longer harm the player, even though the snake continually attacks the player. I've double-checked this behaviour against the original DOS version just to be 100% certain, and it's definitely a bug.

Another issue, not a bug per se, but as far as completion is concerned, lower difficulties should be considered completed if a level has been completed at a higher difficulty. For example, if completing a level in hard difficulty, then Easy and Normal should be considered complete by default as the only difference between the difficulty settings (as far as I am aware) is Johnny's health capacity. It's mighty annoying forcing seasoned players to play at the lower difficulties for 100% completion.

Love the game guys. Well done. Keep it up on these remasters.

I hit the end of Episode one and noticed:
++HD remake is missing the unique lighting above the pot from the original.
++HD remake hides half of Johnny's face! Johnny is too low in the pot in the HD version.
++Downwards auto scrolling Jitters Johnny's sprite on the way through the caves rather than being crisp and stable per the original.

Original:

I spent so long getting to the end of this episode as a kid. Don't forget to add the missing lighting at least for new players, these little unique moments made the game memorable.

Bonus: I'd love the lighting applied to all the pots with flames in the game or more particles as a HD enhancement.

Posted this on steam aswell.

Noticed bugs with doors in episode 2 map 8: The brighter screens show doors which are not working which makes the game unbeatable. The darker screenshot shows a door where the entrance and the background graphics are quite offset.

Played with v1.0.0

Ep. 3 Level 4: "Ember Hut" location: You can't reach the sweet (candy) at the upper right part. I tried many jumps, but as far as I tried I could reach all but one, regardless if I tried jumping from board or the chest on a board.

It seems to me that Ep 3 Level 5 is botched.
I can't finish at all, because the shooting height upwards seems to have reduced? I looked at some playthoughs on YT, but those were all with the old DOS version. I cleared the whole level, even got all bonuses on 100%, but there's one kitty on top of the bookshelf (one magic book to open slide door) that I can't set free, no matter what. I could shoot down the evil skull, but for the lock on Kitty's cage it's either too high or too much to the left.
Standing on the socket on the left was the best I could do, you can see my rock/stone (near the rocket ammo counter symbol) miss the lock in the screenshot).

I'm locked and can't progress episode 3.

PS: screenie naming is gone due to gog forum limitations...

game is v1.1.0.1 (Linux)
By the way, I think the "violence" option also vanished from the game's menu.

EDIT: Nevermind

I'm unable to disable rumble. It's already set to OFF (default) in the menu, but one of my controllers is still buzzing around on the desk. The issue is probably coming up because I have two, a standard XBox pad and a Hori fight pad. (The latter's dpad is more comfortable for platforming games). While I can unplug one as a temporary workaround, it's a hassle to reconnect them in the right order.

SpacemanSpiffed: Title Screen - only responds to "enter" Key. Should also respond to "Esc" Key to exit
Similarly, the gamepad start button opens the game menu but doesn't close it.
