I can't find a way not to fall down the trap door and out of the cottage. The hints system is no help here and i've tried all my inventory pieces without success.

If you have reached the trap door, I understand you have already found the "switch" brick by reflecting the sunlight with the spyglass.

Try using an alternate action on the brick (Pull instead of Push, or vice versa).
