I don't know how or why GoG didn't or hasn't checked this game to see if it works properly. But if your finding that the game is running really choppy and the graphics are missing with streaks of white, I found a setting that I hope can help.
If you're running the game through Galaxy, click on the setting button on the game page, go to manage installation and click on configure. In the box that pops up, go to features. Check the box for Custom executable/arguments. Scroll all the way down and click on Add another executable/arguments. Look for the game installation folder where the game is, which by default should be C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Escape from Monkey Island. Choose the Monkey.exe executable. You can label it whatever you want, but make sure to make it your Default executable.
Now when you click on the play button, it will start the game launcher. In here, click on Options, then Configuration Options. A window will pop up. You can set up a controller here. Click the Trouble Shooting tab and Enable OpenGL. Click on Play Monkey 4 to start the game, but first minimize Galaxy and anything else you may have open. The game starts behind any window you got up for some reason. You might have to click your mouse once if nothing is happening.
The game will only launch properly with these settings through the Monkey Island 4 launcher. If you try starting the game through the default exe it won't start with settings you set on the launcher.
If you're using the offline installer, you'll have to go to the installation folder and click on Monkey.exe to bring up the launcher. You could create a shortcut of that to start it from your desktop.
I hope it all makes sense and it helps. It's annoying that we have to jump through all these hoops to get a game running. GOG needs to look into this and update it.
