I've played through most of the Cloudside of Xeen (defeated Lord Xeen, etc.) and my party's now in Darkside. I've been exploring Southern Tower and there were 2 books on its 4th level.
The one to the west gave my ninja 500k XP but the one to the right eradicates any char who reads it. I looked it up here and it states that "the one to the east doesn't get you anything useful unless you've played MM4".

Since I've played MM4, I'm wondering whether there's something I'm missing here?

Interacting with said book only says "For the eyes of the prince only" (see attached screenshot).

You need your robber to get the title Prince of Thieves (from Clouds of Xeen). That character can then read the book.

Let me know if you need more spoilers on how to get that title.

EDIT: ninjas can't get the title.

Ahh, there was a throne for that in the Northern Sphinx. Will it work on my ninja, though?

That's incorrect. It won't work for your ninja, only robbers can get the title Prince of Thieves as I had to experience in my playthrough. It's no big deal however since you'll only miss robber XP and a ninja still has more attack power since ninjas get attacks faster than robbers.

I just double-checked that and you're right @kmonster: it doesn't work on the ninja -- that's the reason I didn't have the title in the 1st place.
