Is there a way to change the default behaviour of starting WoX?

At the moment I have to go through the "Other" to start the talkie version, which leads to me starting using the play button, not seeing the spinning cd , quitting and then usung the other link, so a way to change the default behaviour of that green button would be preferred.

Likely there are DosBox CONF (text configuration files) files in your World of Xeen game folder for starting each of the two game versions. There shouldn't be any reason why you couldn't swap the filenames of the two files, and thus have the standard Play launch the CD version.

Thanks, that worked. There are 4 DosBox Configs there, (dosboxMM4-5_settings.conf, dosboxMM4-5_settingsCD.conf, dosboxMM4-5_single.conf and dosboxMM4-5_singleCD.conf), after I moved the CD arounf, the talkie Version is sitting on the Play button.

What I am thinking at the moment, does anyone still play the disk Version?

Glad it worked. As to your question, I suspect so. Not only would there be players using Galaxy as a launcher that don't realize the CD version is buried in the menu, the CD version also has a limitation that it doesn't show the text on-screen anymore during conversations with NPCs, which may be a problem particularly for non-English players. Unless of course you use ScummVM to play it.. one of the enhancements it adds is to show the text dialogs again even when playing the CD version.

It's also a problem for some English players, particularly those who can't hear or those whose setup lacks any audio.

(Incidentally, there is still an issue, even in the floppy version; when you try to enter areas that require an item, a cutscene plays in which someone tells you that you need that item (or that you have that item), and there's no on-screen text to go with the voiceover.)

It really bothers me when game developers persue the hottest new feature but don't consider things like accessibility. (I believe full voice acting in games was new at the time.)

You can change that in in-game settings. Use both speech and text.

Really? Huh, thanks. I didn't realise.it was an option
