I am using WIndows 10, and no, my saves are not virtualized. I see them in the default install folder: DARK.CC, DARK.CUR, and DARK01.SAV thur DARK06.SAV as well as the matching XEEN01.SAV thru XEEN06.SAV. I assume these are the files in question since I have this same number of saved games. However, upon loading up my second session of game play, they are not found by the game itself. I tried running the game as admin just in case, no luck. Any tips?

Are you sure you're loading the same version of the game? I believe the floppy and CD versions of the game use different saves.
Are you playing floppy or CD (talkie/full speech)?

The floppy version saves are .SAV files. The CD version (talkie/full speech) version saves are .WOX files and stored in the WORLD folder.

I think you've figured it out. In WIndows 10 I often am missing some of the shortcuts, so there is only the full speech version in the start menu, but I found the original shortcut in the installed folder and my saves are there.

You can start both through the Galaxy client if you have it: https://www.gog.com/forum/might_and_magic_series/help_cant_hear_full_speech_in_world_of_xeen/post7
Not a fan of the Galaxy client for various reasons, but thanks for the tips.
+1 to CD (voice over heavy) and disk (minimal voice over) versions not sharing saves.
