Someone just made a topic about their MM6 houserules, and while having not played that game I have nothing to contribute to that topic, it got me thinking about my World of Xeen houserules. (Note: These do not apply to Swords of Xeen; that game is too unbalanced and buggy for these to be reasonable rules there.)

* Play on Warrior difficulty. (Adventurer makes physical attacks stronger, further exacerbating the physical/magic balance issue the game has, particularly at higher levels.)
* Use the default party (which is actually decent for the first time in the series).
* No training in Castle Kalindra or Olympus. (This rule forbids training past level 50. Level 50, especially with the help of a certain fountain, is high enough, and at higher levels the game's issue of not enough gold rears its ugly head.)
* There is a chair, only accessible late in the game, that will add 50 to any stat that is less than 50. When choosing how to use stat boosting events, I pretend that this does not exist (otherwise, I would be incentivized to keep stats below 50 for most of the game, and I find that isn't particularly fun).

Other rules that I haven't been using, but are certainly reasonable rules that I would consider suitable even for first time players:
* In Clouds, no using the mirror to warp to a place you haven't been. Also, no using the special words. (Possible exception: Getting multiples of that one special sword might be allowed, provided that one has already been obtained through the normal method.)
* Until Lord Xeen has been defeated, no using the pyramids to go to the darkside. (The darkside is far more generous with XP, and Castleview lets you train past the Clouds level cap, which could make things easier than intended. I highly recommend this rule if you want Clouds to not get too easy.)

So, how do these rules sound? (For someone new, I'd recommend all of these rules except perhaps the "default party" rule.)
