Sound effects in MM6 are not timed properly on my system - they play about half a second after they're triggered. Anyone else experiencing this?

Are there any config files you can play around with and maybe change sound buffer rates?

Good idea, but I don't see anything like that in the game directory.
Running xp by any chance? If so you could turn audio hardware acceleration down or off. See if that does it, if your on vista or win7 then I'm not sure. I don't have the game to really look into it myself. I would contact gog support with your problem.
Found the problem - it's the unofficial patch in the other thread. This was actually the very first thing I suspected, so I had already tried reinstalling the game, but that didn't fix the problem. I fixed it by ensuring that the MM6 directory was completely deleted before reinstalling - now it works. I guess the first time I reinstalled, there was still something hanging around in the directory that was causing a problem.
That makes sense, installers normally only remove the files they actually installed. So if the unoffical patch added in extra files or changed files they probably weren't deleted. Good to hear its working now though.
Has anybody gotten the 1.6 fan patch to work without the sound lag? I really like some of the new features that've been implemented (quicksave!) but the audio delay is very annoying.

Besides that, patch 1.6 fixes (among many other things) the awful armor, shield and dual weapon recovery time bug. Any serious player should patch the game. In my case the sound delay is almost unnoticeable.
Well, I found the source of the problem with sound lag in patched 1.6 version.
If you set PlayMP3=1 in mm6.ini (default is=0) sounds lag. If you edit and set PlayMP3=0 there's no sound lag, but also no music. But you can hear the music if you have the original CD2 of MM6 in the CD-ROM drive (or an image of the CD mounted in daemon tools or similar program).
Also you can burn the mp3 files to a CD using mixed CD-audio mode, leaving a track #1 for data, and then the music tracks. Keep original CD label just in case. EDIT: Well, anyway you can burn a normal CD-Audio, just put any other music file in the first track.
This hotfix works both on GOG's and with original MM6 two CDs version.
EDIT: Anyway, I don't think the op initial problem is solved as previously stated, because the actual solution ideally would fix the sound problem WITHOUT removing patch 1.6

Setting PlayMP3=0 does not fix the sound lag for me.

Well I cheked tho whole thing in two different installations of MM6, GOG's and 3DO's, both times happening the same. May be you have a hardware/drivers issue???
Are you runnning background apps??
