I managed to get hold of a boxed copy of this a few years back and it has to be about the best value game I've ever bought. The amount of gameplay here for $10 is ludicrous. I'm not hugely familiar with the first two games and these will probably be a bit too dated for most people but the rest of the series is still highly playable, especially World of Xeen (4 & 5) which are both enormous games in their own right, and link together to form one collosal world.
The graphics are extremely large and colourful with an enormous variety of monsters. The games don't have a huge amount of story with them. There is some dialog but it's quite limited. Might and Magic games are about roleplaying at its more basic level, and you spend your time building up your characters and exploring gradually tougher areas. It's the gameplay that makes these titles and despite the simplicity they are always fun and completely absorbing. I would usually found myself playing them for hours when I'd just sat down to play for 20 minutes.
Just for World of Xeen on its own, this has to be an essential purchase for anyone who has an interest in RPG's. Add in the other games and this is just too good to turn down.
I was going to post my own review of this bundle, but you pretty much sum it up. I was so excited to play World of Xeen again, I almost giggled with glee when I killed that first slime Thursday night.
I only intended to play for a few minutes, get a taste of nostalgia, and I ended up playing until 2am.
Thanks for the memories, GOG.
I had never played any of the Might and Magic games before. I'm basically a videogame guy, and all of the CRPGs from the past passed unnoticed my me. I've decided to fix this, and have just managed to get get through Ultima I.
Then I saw this pack and thought, "why not?" Now I just can't stop playing Might and Magic I, I'm definitely addicted. I can't wait to play all of these games, it's just too much fun for me. Thanks, GOG!
Might and Magic I seems pretty tough at the beginning to my. As used to killing number of goblins in Might and Magic VI without healing now I was killed fighting a few sprites without even hitting any of them (or I haven't noticed).
And I am kinda lazy to draw map myself.
BUT I will give it another try after I read some clues from the cluebook.

A tip: status spells are VERY effective, at least in the beginning. The sleep spell, in particular, will affect most (if not all) of the enemies you'll find in Sorpigal. Believe me, it really works. The bless spell will help your character hit rate go up (they miss lots of attacks early in the game). And when you find undead enemies, like skeletons or a polterfheist, use the Turn Undead spell. If you're lucky, it will kill all of the undead enemies.
At first I tried to just attack enemies, but I couldn progress much this way. When I started using the status spells, everything changed.
You are right. I was also able to kill a few enemies using sleep spell.
Now I wait for grid papers to draw maps and printer to print spells numbers.
What is annoying is the need to slow the game for fight (Ctrl+F11) and then for walking speed it up (Ctrl+F12), otherwise fight information is not possible to read as it disappears to quickly.
I also often forget to search dead enemies (S).
I run my game at 150 cycles. In combat, I use the delay command (D, and then 9) so I can read the messages. The only moment I slow the game down is when opening chests, or else the text will disappear to fast, and I won't be able to read what was inside of the chest.
Regarding maps, I've created a grid image that you can print in order to map the areas. I'm using it myself, and it works quite well, take a look:

All areas are 16x16, and the "location" spell will tell you your current position (as in x=4 y=7 facing north, for example). Here are two map that I've drawn (bear in mind that they are incomplete):

You guys are doing way more work than you have to! Included with the GOG downloads is a cluebook for each game. These include all the maps you need already, with walls, doors, etc. already drawn (For MM1 and MM2 anyway). They aren't annotated with detailed information, but they are already perfect for printing out and making your own comments on them.

I know it, but I like to play my games just like the old times, making my own maps... in fact, if you play MM and don't draw your own maps, you are certainly missing half the fun. That's why the maps included in the cluebook aren't detailed, they know they are ruining the game, so the idea is only to help you when you are absolutely lost.

I have to agree. Personally, I wouldn't want to have to draw maps for ALL of my games - especially the ones with crazy 3D levels - but when you're playing an old-school crawler with no automap, it's time to break out the graph paper and have some fun.
Wow! I love it!
I bought the Ultimate Wizardry Archives a couple of years ago and it's the same feeling. Of them all I only managed to beat the first game. These two series are before my time, but I like them.
But this time I don't need to install the first few games on my Windows 3.1 computer. I actually figured out how to make the speed slow down. I'm so happy!
