ecm0: where is the saves folder in MM8?
In the folder where you installed the game, there is a subfolder called Saves.

Unless you installed in C:\Program Files, in which case Windows might have moved it around.

Just to be safe, please test first.

i have all my old games in the saves subfolder on my program drive. but the game has never recognized them unless i put them in the main mm8 folder. if windows is putting the saves anywhere else, i have not been able to find them. my only option to get the saves to be recognized by the game in the past has been to copy the games to the main mm8 file. i had it working fine, but my computer broke down. & when i started it up again, the list of games in galaxy & in mm3 had been lost. but my saves file is intact. so i have to start over again & try copying the files again to the main folder.

this sounds like a bug on my machine. so i think i should write gog about it.

No. The main MM8 folder is where you should put them.

When you install Mm8 you select the destination folder, e.g. c:\gog\mm8, then your saves folder, the one containing all the saved games should be in c:\gog\mm8\saves

If your MM8 installation is gone, then reinstall MM8, copy the saves subfolder to the game folder and it should run fine.

thanks for your help. i have a saved games folder for all my games in the GAMES folder. so i will make sure it is current & then copy the games to the games/mm8 folder. i don't like to have my folders that full. but that seems to be the case with the Gog ver ...never had to do that with the original.

thanks again & blessings to you

If you have the solution to your problem, then please mark the relevant post as the solution. This lets other people see the question has been answered and quickly find the answer.
thanks for the info. However, pardon my ignorance, but i don't see how to mark a post as the solution. i haven't been able to find a way to do that.

by the way, galaxy itself resolved my problem. unfortunately though, it brought back my old saves & erased my new ones.

Assuming you are using the forums with a web browser (not Galaxy), then you should see a button labeled "Mark as Solution" when you mouse over a post that isn't yours. That button only shows up if the thread is: 1) one that you created, 2) one that you created as a question, 3) that you haven't marked a solution for yet, and 4) if the post isn't one of yours (you can't mark your own post as a solution).

I expect the process is very similar in Galaxy, but I can't confirm because I don't use Galaxy.
Do you have any backups of the old ones?

unfortunately no. i didn't have the good sense to do that. although i always have in the past. this time, though, i was relying on the software to do that. it never occured to me that the software would erase them ...never happened before & i have been playing this game since it came out..

Looks like they were overwritten.

I don't use Galaxy but it seems to be very "experimental" when it comes to dealing with saves.
