Hi, first post here, and I just recently downloaded the first 6 MM games, and am enjoying the first one right now. My question is, is there a recommended level to beat the game at? Also, what's the minimum level you need to be, if there is one?
There's no minimum level to beat the game.

And there is really no recommended level to beat it at. The general idea is: if you find an area too tough, come back when you're of a higher level.
I just started too and I gotta say this is the only time I've actually had fun playing a game this outdated. I had to give up on Akalabeth and the first Ultima but after getting an hour into this I am hooked. The monster variety and steady pace to the grind (level ups aren't too infrequent) as well as intermittent awesome loot make for a great time.

Looking forward to getting to the ones with better graphics though lol. I'm guessing you're going to be at least level 13 by the time the game ends, since that is I believe the level required to cast the highest level spells.

Also, unless you haven't figured it out, Hit Point gains at level up are random, which sucks. You could get 2 or you could get 10 or more. The maximum a character can get is equal to his or her level 1 maximum... so if your level 1 character has 12 HP, you should save/load until he gains 12 HP at level up if you want to maximize his growth. I didn't figure this out right away so a few of my chars have less max HP than they should (I had to do this trick in Baldur's Gate 1, too, hated it then as well).

Im only level 3, so I haven't missed out on too many HP yet then lol. Thanks for the info though, guys

I was fine without worrying about HP. But, that might have meant I needed to gain more levels before I could win.

My advice is to just tackle things as you encounter them. You will probably want to at least have all the spells before you try to complete the main quest, but there are optional things that are even harder than the main quest in the game too. So it's really a matter of how much optional stuff you want to do and how tough of a time you're having.

Yeah, I looked at a map of the overworld on gamefaqs, and its humongous, especially for a game this old IMO, but i know I'm gonna have a blast tackling this beast of a game lol. Don't know how I missed this back in the day
